Susie van der Vorst is the Co-founder and Director of Camp Spring Creek, one of only three US residential summer camps for children with dyslexia. A passionate advocate for dyslexic students, Susie is dedicated to helping teachers, tutors and parents gain the skills they need to help kids learn to love reading.

Susie was awarded a fellowship from the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators in 2004, one of fewer than 200 teachers in the world to achieve the distinction. She trained at the Kildonan School and Camp Dunnabeck under the supervision of Diana King. She has also assisted trainings with JoAnn Crawford and helped to establish the Orton-Gillingham philosophy at the Key Learning Center in Asheville, NC.

Susie has worked with school systems throughout Western North Carolina to train teachers in multi-sensory approaches to language learning and developed a partnership with the non-profit Open Doors of Asheville to bring tutoring assistance to low-income children with dyslexia and other language-based learning issues.

We offer a number of different courses for teachers, tutors and parents. Our Orton-Gillingham training courses are designed to fulfill partial requirements leading to certification by the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators. Course work is based on the curriculum and objectives of the Academy (AOGPE).
